Transportation/Bussing Information

Student transportation eligibility information will be available by visiting and click on ‘Am I Eligible for Transportation?’ to find out if your child will be eligible for transportation to their designated secondary school. Parents are reminded that they will need their child’s Ontario Education Number (OEN) to access the secure parent portal.

Exam and Culminating Review

To better support authentic feedback, STA will be modifying the way we offer students the opportunity to see their exams and culminating assessments this June. Students will now have two specific opportunities over the course of the day to find their teacher and to review their final exam/culminating assessments. Using the schedule below, students will report to the rooms assigned by subject where students will check in by period, meet their teacher, and review their final assessments. During a student’s scheduled “lunch time”, students are asked to ensure that lockers have been cleaned out, that locks have been returned to the main office, and that books returned to the library and text books returned to the main office. Additionally, please note, staff will be unavailable for student review from 11:00AM – 12:25PM as teachers participate in department discussions and reviews.

OSSLT – Thursday March 30 – SPECIAL SCHEDULE

March 22, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On Thursday March 30, 2017, the compulsory Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) will be written by over one third of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School students. It is a requirement that all students successfully complete (pass) this test in order to receive their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The first opportunity for students to write the OSSLT is in grade 10.

In order to support a testing atmosphere conducive to maximizing student success and minimizing distractions, we will be revising the school day schedule on March 30th as follows:

Students who are not involved in writing the OSSLT will have a later start to their school day as explained in the overview of the schedule below. It is important to note that all students are expected to be in full and complete uniform on that day.

Session 1:    8:30 am – 9:45 am
Break:          9:45 am – 10:00 am
Session 2*:  10:00 am – 11:25 am *includes time for student questionnaire

AFTERNOON SCHEDULE (remainder of the day)

Common Lunch: 11:25 am – 12:05 pm (students and staff)
Period 1:    12:10 pm – 12:40 pm
Period 2:    12:45 pm – 1:15 pm
Period 3/4: 1:20 pm – 1:50 pm
Period 5:    1:55 pm – 2:27 pm

Please be aware that transportation (school buses) will operate on their regular schedule of times. Students who are not writing the literacy test and arrive to school prior to the start of Period 1 will be provided with a supervised study area in the library.

Student Timetables/Schedules for 2016-2017 Now Available!

The following will be the procedures for retrieving the students timetables for September 2016.

Grade 9’s will receive their timetable on Orientation Day–August 31, 2016.

Grade 10-12’s will receive their timetable on the first day of instruction – Wednesday September 7, 2016. The students are to locate their homeroom class posted outside of the cafeteria, report to their homeroom, where their teachers will have their timetables.

STA Raiders Orientation Day – Wednesday August 31, 10AM

We are pleased to welcome all new Grade 9’s to St. Thomas Aquinas for September 2016. Our STA Raiders Orientation Day for Grade 9 students will be held on Wednesday August 31 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Grade 9 students are asked to arrive in the Atrium (at the front of the school) at 10:00 AM to receive their schedule. Grade 9 students will hear presentations from our administration team, Chaplain, students representatives, coaches and co-curricular coordinators. Cross Boundary and Non-Resident Applications

Parents that are requesting 2015-2016 School Year Cross Boundary/Non-Resident status for their child/ren must submit their applications to the school office by February 15th, 2015. Please note that each request will be judged on its own merit. Parents will begin to receive response letters in mid-May.

Parents who currently have cross boundary/non-resident status within our school must have the request renewed on an annual basis. The request for renewal of Cross Boundary/Non-Resident application should be submitted to the school office by February 15th, 2015.

Requests received after this date may be reviewed based on exceptional circumstances.

Pathways Information Nights

There are Pathway Programs available to HCDSB Secondary students. We are able to happy offer career exploring programs to our students. Students are able to experience unique opportunities to learn about the world of work, explore potential careers and gain valuable work experience. These programs assist all students who are bound for the workplace, university, apprenticeships or college to make informed and knowledgeable decisions about career pathways. 6:00-7:30 pm for Gr. 7-12 students.
